City and place to visit in Zimbabwe.
Harare : Harare is the capital of Zimbabwe. Harare is home to
some two million people, with most in central Harare but some
500,000 in the surrounding districts of Rural Harare, Chintungwiza
and Epworth. Once a city of modern buildings, wide thoroughfares,
numerous parks and gardens, it is now in increasing disrepair thanks
to Zimbabwe's economic downward spiral.
Binga :
Binga is a port town in Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.
Bulawayo :
Bulawayo is in Zimbabwe. It is the second-largest city in the
country, after the capital Harare, and until recently was Zimbabwe's
industrial capital. It is a relaxed, elegant city with tree-lined
boulevards and an air of shabby gentility. However, it's worth a day
or two -- you can find good shopping and a worthwhile movie theater
-- if passing through. It means to slaughter. This is the place
where Mzilikazi had his first capital and used to slaughter his
enemies. Gweru : Gweru is a city in
Southeastern Zimbabwe.
Kariba : Kariba is a
town on the shore of Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. Lake Kariba is a great
place to fish and enjoy the wild life that visit the shores of the
worlds largest man made lake. One of the most popular ways of
travelling along the lake is on a houseboat. Houseboats tour
companies travel along the river giving you an opportunity to fish
and enjoy the wild life that drinks along the banks of the
river.Tiger fish and bream are the two most popular fish found in
the lake. Houseboat tours can take up to five days with evening
spent camping on the shore of the lake.
Marondera : Marondera is a city in
Mashonaland, Zimbabwe. Marondera is an agricultural town about 70km
east of Harare and is on the way to Mutare.
Masvingo :
Masvingo is a city in Southeastern Zimbabwe and the capital of
Masvingo province.
Mutare :
Mutare is the fourth largest city in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has 1
international airport in Harare, and a number of others in Bulawayo,
Victoria Falls, etc. Mutare's air strip is not used commercially at
present Mutare is right on the eastern border of Zimbabwe, and
residents of the city often take a short morning's trip by road to
Manica or Chimoio in Mozambique for shopping. Good roads are
available from all major and minor cities, and buses and smaller
commuter buses are in abundance. The commuter drivers and conducters
can be a bit rough - but please just "go with the flow" and allow a
little comedic entertainment to the passengers at your expense!
Victoria Falls : Victoria Falls, the town, is
in the western portion of Zimbabwe, across the border from
Livingstone, Zambia, and near Botswana. This popular tourist
destination offers both adventure seekers and sightseers plenty of
opportunities.
* British Airways and South African Airways all offer daily flights
between Johannesburg (JNB) and Victoria Falls Airport (VFA). Air Zim
also offers flights between Victoria Falls Airport and other
destinations within Zimbabwe.
* The roads within Zimbabwe are relatively good. The most direct way
to Victoria Falls overland is from Bulawayo.
* It's possible to drive in through Livingstone. Crossing an
international border with a vehicle, however, will incur extra costs
like carbon tax and insurance. Very annoying is the time consuming
and disorganised procedure of obtaining a 'temporary import permit'
for the car at the Zambian boarder posts. Once at the Zimbabwe
boarder post the whole procedure is to be repeated, though a bit
faster but also expensive,
* If travelling from Namibia or Botswana the best road is from
Kasane in Botswana using the Kazungula border post. Distance to Vic
Falls is 70 kilometers. |
